Athenaeum Newscentre presents: THE MODERN MAGAZINE

In cooperation with Laurence King Publishers, Athenaeum Nieuwscentrum invites you share our passion: magazines! At November 21, 5 pm at Spui25, this English-spoken gathering is organised to celebrate the new book by Jeremy Leslie ( The Modern Magazine. With Xandra Schutte.

Jeremy Leslie will talk about his research for the book, which shows the reader some outstanding examples of magazines through design versus content to print versus digital. He will be interviewed by Xandra Schutte, editor in chief of De Groene Amsterdammer. As the first chapter of the book is called ‘What is a Magazine’ and Xandra Schutte is editor-in-chief of one of them, the conversation will surely be lively! Afterwards the audience is invited to cross the street for a drink and visit Athenaeum Nieuwscentrum, the place to be for the magazines which are subject to the book. Jeremy Leslie will sign his book as well.

Jeremy Leslie is the author of the highly successful books such as Issues: New Magazine Design and We Love magazines. He has been designing magazines since the mid-1980s and has art directed Blitz, Time Out and Virgin Atlantic's Hot Air. He runs magCulture, providing hands-on design and advice to publishers and other clients working with content for print and digital media. Jeremy Leslie lives in London.

Xandra Schutte is editor-in-chief of the renowned weekly on current affairs De Groene Amsterdammer. Previously she was editor-in-chief of Vrij Nederland and worked as a publisher for Meulenhoff. De Groene Amsterdammer is the oldest independent weekly and dates back to 1877. The focus is on politics, society, culture and literature.
