BETRAYAL TAKES TWO, the art and music scene between Eindhoven and New York in the early 80's.

This is the first issue of BETRAYAL TAKES TWO, a zine that's put together by guest editors at the invitation of Carlos van Hijfte and Ton van Gool. The guest editors are asked to build a zine from photos that Carlos and Ton took from the bands they programmed at De Effenaar in Eindhoven in the late 70s and early 80s.
In the early 80's there was a blooming avant-garde rock scene in New York that found a connection with Dutch artists and photographers. This issue is compiled by René Daniels and Marleen Gijsen and has stories and work by Remko Scha, Truus de Groot, Ton van Gool and Carlos van Hijfte.
They all tell their personal story, there are photo's from Tom Waits, Talking Heads, Glenn Branca, Patti Smith, the CBGB venue in NY and The Ramones. There are drawings and parts of diaries kept by René Daniels in New York.
One of the most special photo's here is a band portrait of Sonic Youth made by Carlos Van Hijfte in Valkenswaard. It got featured on the backcover of the bands' second album Bad Moon Rising
BETRAYAL TAKES TWO  is a beautiful zine which documents an interesting and very relevant period in music history. The next issue will be curated by Lee Ranaldo from Sonic Youth. We're looking forward to that!
