A Magazine #11 Curated by Kate and Laura Mulleavy

‘A MAGAZINE curated by Rodarte’ explores the world of Kate and Laura Mulleavy across 200 pages of photography, art, interviews, and personal contributions. In an ode to the West Coast and the Mulleavy’s singular vision of America, A#11 weaves a vibrant tapestry of natural and built environments, featuring inspiring landscapes and the characters that inhabit those worlds. Highlights include two exclusively commissioned portfolios, featuring Kirsten Dunst in the Rodarte Fall Winter 2011 collection photographed by David Armstrong, and Elle Fanning in the Rodarte ten-piece Spring Summer 2012 Couture collection photographed by Bill Owens.

"As part of our guest curation of A Magazine, we asked Bill Owens and Elle Fanning to collaborate on a special series of photographs involving our SS2012 Couture Collection as seen through memories of our childhood growing up in Santa Cruz, California. It is the first editorial of the collection which was shown in Florence this past June and is now a part of the LACMA Los Angeles County Museum of Art's permanent collection. It was an honor to work with Bill Owens, whose work we admire greatly."

New today, launched yesterday: PARK. A Dutch glossy with a journalistic attitude. A bit like Vanity Fair, but not quite, they say. We see many similarities, but it's well done, although not too innovative. Stories, interviews, trends, picks-in-the-park etcetera. Someone posted on the NRC website: a paper version of DWDD. Well, many people like that, so it's a compliment!

A Blog turning to paper!  We love it, even if it might be a once in a lifetime endeavour.

Jaap Biemans, the curator of the popular blog decided to put his enthusiasm in this one-off cover junkie magazine; it's packed with 214 striking magazine covers from 2011. On top of this Bieman asked top designers to name their favourite covers, the result is stunning and entertaining.

We might be slightly partial though because this is what Biemans says about us! "And Love to Athenaeum Nieuwscentrum (my candystore) for carrying all the mags thinkable in the heart of Amsterdam..."

We Like this guy!

"032c is a contemporary culture magazine that fiercely believes in the intelligence of its readers, and rises to the challenge of surprising them. Published twice a year, it is both timely and timeless—a celebration of and for the most cutting-edge in art, culture, and fashion.
Finding the new in the old and the old in the new, it is considered the “Berlin magazine that propagates an aesthetic of brutal elegance” by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, or simply as the “revue ultra-pointue” by Vogue Paris". According to our collegues at MOTTO Berlin

Issue #22 — Winter 2011/2012  The Chermayeff Century

Issue #22 — Winter 2011/2012: The Chermayeff Century

Introducing THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS of architecture and design: “Serge often roused himself from a serious conversation with, ‘Chris, let’s go get a sandwich.’ This was in fact a rallying cry for martinis,” recalls CHRISTOPHER ALEXANDER of his mentor SERGE CHERMAYEFF, the charismatic Russian tango-champion-turned-design-legend who began the creative dynasty featured in this issue’s 32-page cover dossier. Meet IVAN CHERMAYEFF, the original Mad Man, PETER CHERMAYEFF, aquatic architect, and Berlin’s newest spark plug, SAM CHERMAYEFF, with essays, interviews and memories by CARSON CHAN, THOMAS DEMAND, MICHAEL ROCK, and HANS ULRICH OBRIST. Elsewhere JUERGEN TELLER and IRINA KULIKOVA maraud in SYLVIE AUBREY’s masks; CORNELIUS TITTEL resurrects the sex and successes of JIRI GEORG DOKOUPIL; New York’s preeminent avant-garde skate shop still reigns SUPREME (while remaining a mysterious church of cool); the 20th century’s best-dressed journalist, Hamburg media myth FRITZ J. RADDATZ gets canonized; CALVIN KLEIN… needs no superlatives, thanks especially to Men’s Creative Director ITALO ZUCCHELLI; man about town CLEMENS WEISSHAAR makes seven pronouncements on design, simulation and competition; ANA and DANKO STEINER pack some heat; 032c’s latest SELECT presents the best of this season’s books, products, and ideas; a special front section finally tells readers WHAT WE BELIEVE, and so much more on 260 pages….
