Ik heb toch altijd een zekere ‘laissez-faire’ in het mannelijk uiterlijk geprefereerd. Maar toen niet al te lang geleden de baard terug in het modebeeld verscheen – hier en daar reeds voorzichtig opgevolgd door de snor (die toch nog enigszins misplaatst lijkt – volgend jaar misschien) – was ik in eerste instantie enthousiast. Maar een brandende vraag maakte zich snel van mij meester: hoe kan deze nieuwe woeste oerman bestaan naast de nog altijd Brazilian gewaxte vrouw? Zelfs het borsthaar, zij het op de juiste wijze licht piekend uit een V-hals, mag weer. Is die plotselinge overmaat aan mannelijk haar een vorm van protest, een stille sneer naar al dat trimmen en scheren van de eens zo geliefde metroman? Het zesde nummer van TL Magazine is slow, volgens de door Marcel Wanders, ontworpen cover. Slow als in tegenstelling tot fast: duurzaam, met oog voor milieu, maatschappij, cultuur en wereld. Maar het blad is in meer opzichten traag en dit nummer voelt meer degelijk dan trendy. Het hart zit duidelijk wel op de juiste plaats, en is vol van (met name Belgisch) design, maar TL mist een scherp randje. Door Linda Schilperoort.
